Newz Fast, New Delhi: Before Diwali, the Modi government has given another good news to the farmers after releasing the 12th installment of PM Kisan. The cabinet has increased the minimum support price for Rabi crops.

The cabinet has increased the MSP of mustard by Rs 400 per quintal. Apart from this, the MSP of masoor has been increased by Rs 500 per quintal and that of jute by Rs 110 per quintal.

3 to 9% increase in MSP was recommended

Let us tell you that the Minimum Support Price is the price at which the government buys crops from farmers. You can also understand it in this way that the MSP that the government pays for the crops purchased from the farmers is the same.

Farmers are not paid for their crops below MSP. Earlier, the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices had recommended a 3 to 9% increase in the MSP of all rabi crops, including wheat. As expected, there has been a maximum increase on the MSP of pulses.

MSP of Kharif crop was increased by Rs 100

Earlier in June, the Central Government had approved to increase the minimum support price for Kharif crops.

At that time the Union Cabinet had increased the MSP of paddy by Rs 100 to Rs 2,040 per quintal for the 2022-23 crop year. Farmers are expected to get a big relief from the recent steps taken by the government.

Why decide MSP?

It is necessary to fix the MSP of any crop so that the farmers get a reasonable minimum price for their crop in any case.

The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is announced by the government twice a year (Rabi and Kharif) on the basis of the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). At the same time, the sugarcane commission decides the support price of sugarcane.
