Newz Fast, New Delhi: If you too have been driving a car in Delhi for many years, then be careful. Because a campaign is being run in Delhi regarding old vehicles.

The Transport Department has decided to cancel the registration by taking action against the vehicles which are older than the deadline and spreading pollution. Till October 17, the registration of more than 50 lakh vehicles has been canceled in Delhi.

Among the canceled vehicles are petrol and diesel vehicles. Explain that diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years are not allowed in Delhi-NCR.

Citing data from the transport department, the report states that between October 17 and 2018 this year, about 53.38 lakh vehicles have been canceled in the capital city.

According to the data, more than 46 lakh of these vehicles were engines, but were found to be more than 15 years old. While the number of diesel vehicles in these was 4.15 lakh, which were more than 10 years old.

Cancellation of registration simply means that they can no longer be used. This could potentially help decongest the city streets and boost new purchases.

Apart from this, reducing the number of old vehicles will also help in controlling pollution. Let us tell you that in 2018, the Supreme Court had banned all petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years in Delhi.

What if your car is too old?

If your vehicle is also older than this time limit, then you are left with very limited options. To continue using these vehicles, you will have to obtain a fitness certificate from an authorized center.

But this process can be expensive. You can also avail vehicle scrappage policy. Under this, you can scrap your old car and you will get a discount on buying a new car.
