People are feeling difficulty in breathing due to pollution. Patients suffering from diseases like asthma are also facing problems. At the same time, according to health experts, this air pollution is also causing heart disease.
Heart-damaging air pollution
Dr Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said that however, pollution is only associated with lung problems as the problem of asthma patients increases.
But people often ignore the fact that air pollution also damages the heart. We should not ignore it.
Why is heart disease increasing among youth?
He said that in fact, as we are seeing a rise in the cases of heart diseases among the youth in the last few years. I believe it is due to air pollution which is happening in last 20 years as well because of their bad lifestyle.
How does air pollution cause heart disease?
Dr Ashok Seth told that 2.5 particulate matter in polluted air is very harmful. It transfers from the lungs to the blood vessels. These cause inflammation in the arteries of the heart.
When this particulate matter travels from the lungs into the blood stream, the arteries of the heart become inflamed and blood clots also increase.
These two important factors lead to heart attack and damage to the inner lining of the arteries of the heart which causes the condition of cholesterol and coronary artery disease.
